Dr. Susan Siklos, R.Psych.


Dr. Susan Siklos is a registered psychologist who specializes in the management of anxiety, mood, chronic illness, pain, and adjustment to illness or disability in children, teens, and young adults (ages 5 – 25). Examples of concerns that Dr. Siklos treats include anxiety disorders (generalized anxiety/worry, obsessive compulsive disorder, social phobia, specific phobias), depression, management of and adjustment to health concerns (i.e. chronic illness, pain, anxiety about medical procedures, medical treatment adherence, adjustment to disability, management of post-concussive symptoms, brain injury education and adjustment, spinal cord injury adjustment), and associated parenting challenges (including parenting a child with ADHD, brain injury, or other neurological concerns). Dr. Siklos has also recently become certified as a provider of Cognitive Behavioural Intervention for Tics, and treats children, teens, and young adults with Tourette’s and tic disorders.

Dr. Siklos uses evidenced-based techniques with her clients, including cognitive behavioural therapy, mindfulness-based psychotherapy, and behavioural interventions. She often works with both children and their parents to provide the family with tools to support the child/adolescent and to maintain long-lasting positive change. Dr. Siklos takes a very client-centred, personalized, and playful approach to meet the individual needs of her clients and their families.

Dr. Siklos also specializes in the assessment of learning, social, and emotional concerns in children and adolescents (ages 6-19). Examples of assessment questions include learning disabilities, ADHD, giftedness, learning and behavioural concerns following brain injury or a neurological condition, and the impact of emotions (e.g. worries) on learning. Dr. Siklos has extensive experience assessing children with prenatal substance exposure, brain injuries, genetic conditions, learning disabilities, ADHD, autism, developmental delays, and other complex neurodevelopmental conditions.

Dr. Siklos received a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of Victoria, with specialization in Pediatric Neuropsychology and Child Clinical Psychology. Her graduate research included examining multi-tasking in children with ADHD, families’ experiences getting a diagnosis of an autism spectrum disorder and their need for social supports, and emotion recognition in children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders. Her pre-doctoral internship was completed at BC Children’s Hospital in Vancouver, where she completed rotations in developmental psychology pediatric/health psychology, mental health, rehabilitation, and pediatric neuropsychology.

Dr. Siklos previously worked in the Mood and Anxiety Disorders and Outpatient Medical Psychology Programs at BC Children’s Hospital. She also worked for three years as the neuropsychologist for the Adolescent and Young Adult Rehab Program at GF Strong Rehab Centre. Dr. Siklos is a Clinical Associate at Simon Fraser University, where she supervises Clinical Psychology graduate students. In addition to working at North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic, Dr. Siklos currently works on the Complex Developmental Behaviour Conditions Program at Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children.
