Dr. Lisa Brown, R.Psych.
Dr. Lisa Brown completed her undergraduate degree at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. She majored in both psychology and German. Although she had entered university as a student of language and politics, she enrolled in Psychology 100 on a whim and fell in love with the subject. She went on to complete a doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Simon Fraser University. She obtained an additional diploma in Forensic Psychology, working with Dr. James Ogloff and Dr. Stephen Hart.
Completing her first practicum at the Anxiety Disorders Unit at the University of British Columbia (UBC) Health Sciences in 1993, Dr. Brown began specialized training in cognitive behavioural therapy. She gained further training and clinical experience at a number of clinics at UBC, eventually completing her predoctoral clinical internship at the Health Psychology Clinic, which has unfortunately since been closed. During her internship she was able to provide short-term treatment both in an individual and group format.
Dr. Brown can treat a variety of mood and anxiety disorders. She is experienced in treating people coping with stressful life situations, as well as people suffering from depression, panic attacks, extreme shyness (social anxiety), chronic worry (generalized anxiety), post-traumatic symptoms, obsessions and compulsions, and phobias. She can also provide skills training in areas such as stress management, assertiveness and anger management.
Lisa Brown has been a registered psychologist in British Columbia since 2003. She has worked in federal and provincial correctional settings, and currently works half-time at BC Mental Health and Addictions conducting court ordered assessments. Before she worked at the North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic, she operated her own small private practice in Burnaby, British Columbia for a few years. The move to the larger practice was positive, as it is stimulating to be part of an energetic group of therapists. She is thrilled to be part of the NSSAC team, and loves working near the vibrant market at Lonsdale Quay.
Dr. Brown enjoys providing psychotherapy, finding the opportunity to work collaboratively with clients to help them improve their quality of life very rewarding. She has a warm, compassionate style and will work with you to set goals for change.
