Dr. Mazen Elchami, R.Psych.

Dr. Mazen Elchami is a Psychologist registered with the College of Psychologists of BC who has over ten years of experience in a variety of clinical settings. His approach to therapy is founded in evidence-based therapies including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (which is widely considered to be the most effective form of psychotherapy for anxiety and depression) and Emotion-Focused Therapy.

The main focus of his clinical practice is providing psychological treatment to adolescents, adults and couples to enhance their skills and coping using techniques that are grounded in scientific research. Mazen specializes in the assessment and treatment of anxiety, stress, and depression.  He has treated social, behavioural and mood disorders and anxiety disorders including separation anxiety, health anxiety, generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobias, social anxiety disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and panic disorder.

  1. Mazen has expertise in conducting psychoeducational assessments across the lifespan. He works with individuals, families, and schools to help identify learning difficulties, support educational placement decisions, and understand the impact that mental health concerns have on academic functioning. His goal is to help individuals achieve their potential.

In addition to his private practice at the North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic, Mazen conducts psychoeducational assessments in Northern BC for the Complex Developmental and Behavioural Conditions (CDBC) Network. He also works part-time for the Francophone school district where his major role consists of conducting psychological assessments (intellectual, social/behavioural, academic) of students who exhibit educational, behavioural, and social difficulties for the purpose of assisting school-based staff in the design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of intervention strategies.

Mazen completed his Psy.D. at California School of Professional Psychology and his clinical internship at Montreal General Hospital. After receiving his doctorate degree, he worked with a number of organizations including the Northern Health Authority, Prince George School District, Worth Counseling Services, and Alain Hospital. Through these positions, he has assessed and treated many adolescents, adults, and couples with a wide variety of challenges.
