Dr. Dylan Gatner, R.Psych.

Dr. Dylan Gatner is a Registered Psychologist (#2648) at the North Shore Stress & Anxiety Clinic. He has expertise in assessing and treating a number of mental health difficulties, including social anxiety, depression, insomnia, and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Dr. Gatner also provides treatment for anger and emotion regulation, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and life stresses. In addition, he has an interest in working with athletes looking to their improve mental health or performance problems.

Dr. Gatner works with clients to build individualized treatment plans to reduce mental health difficulties while helping to improve strengths and achieve life goals. He takes an evidence-based approach to therapy, which usually takes the form of cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). He also incorporates therapy strategies from acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and mindfulness-based interventions.

In addition to his private practice at the North Shore Stress and Anxiety Clinic, Dr. Gatner works for BC Mental Health and Substance Use Services where he provides treatment and court-ordered assessments (e.g., violence risk assessment) for individuals who have mental health and legal difficulties. In this position, he provides clinical services to remote communities on Vancouver Island and the Interior of British Columbia. Dr. Gatner has published scientific articles in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at national and international conferences. He has received a number of nationally recognized awards for research and teaching, and he has provided guest lectures at Simon Fraser University and to athletes on topics related to sport psychology. He continues to conduct research focused on risk assessment, treatment, and management in forensic mental health services.

Dr. Gatner received his Ph.D. from Simon Fraser University’s Clinical Psychology Program. He completed a Canadian Psychological Association-accredited predoctoral residency with St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) in Ontario. During this residency, he completed clinical rotations in sleep medicine, forensic psychology, and at the SJHH Anxiety Treatment and Research Clinic. His clinical training has also included placements in community outpatient mental health clinics and inpatient settings in the Lower Mainland. In his off time, Dr. Gatner enjoys being involved in sport, especially running and basketball. He also spends his time cooking and exploring the outdoors with friends.
