Dr. Brenda Hogan is a Licensed Psychologist who provides evidence-based therapy for adults facing challenges such as depression, generalized anxiety, stress-related issues, social anxiety, panic, agoraphobia, health anxiety, phobias, sleep disturbances, self-esteem difficulties, chronic pain, and coping with medical conditions. She uses proven therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Dr. Hogan works collaboratively with her clients to create personalized treatment plans that address their unique challenges and goals, aiming to help them cope more effectively and improve their quality of life.
Extensive Training and Clinical Experience
Dr. Hogan earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2002. Early in her career, she provided CBT to clients in outpatient and primary care settings at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, England. During her time in England, she played a key role in increasing community access to mental health services by developing a short-term therapy program offered through family (GP) health clinics. She also co-authored a series of self-help resources for managing depression, anxiety, health anxiety, and phobias. Dr. Hogan previously served as Manager of Psychological Services at Back in Motion Rehab, where she oversaw the delivery of mental health services across various programs. She focused on helping clients with physical and mental health barriers successfully re-enter the workforce, providing both assessment and treatment services tailored to their needs. In addition to her role at NSSAC, Dr. Hogan is a clinical consultant for the BounceBack: Reclaim Your Health program, a free, province-wide initiative by the Canadian Mental Health Association – BC Division that uses CBT strategies to help individuals manage low mood and anxiety.
Community Involvement
Dr. Hogan is an active member of her community and serves on the Board of Directors for the Mavis McMullen Housing Society, a charitable organization that provides safe, permanent, and affordable housing for low-income single women and their children. Dr. Hogan’s compassionate, evidence-based approach and commitment to client-centered care make her a trusted resource for adults seeking to overcome mental health challenges and lead more fulfilling lives.
