Adolescence can be a complex time for teens and for those who care for them.
At NSSAC, we use evidence-based strategies to teach teens practical coping skills that foster emotional resilience and personal growth.
We also support parents and caregivers with tools and guidance to help them stay connected with their teen and feel more confident during this important development stage.
Our primary therapy approaches include:
- Cognitive-Behaviour Therapy (CBT) – CBT is our core therapeutic approach. It is considered to be one of the most effective treatments for many of the challenges teens face, including anxiety, depression and behavioural concerns. CBT helps teens develop healthier thought patterns, better emotional regulation, interpersonal skills, problem-solving strategies, and other helpful coping skills.
- Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) - DBT offers powerful tools for managing intense emotions, reducing impulsivity, and building stronger interpersonal relationships. It’s especially helpful for teens struggling with emotional dysregulation or self-harming behaviours.
- Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) - ACT helps teens develop psychological flexibility by learning to accept difficult emotions, clarify their values, and take positive steps toward meaningful goals- even when challenges persist.
- Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) - IPT is especially effective for depression and relationship difficulties. It helps teens navigate the social and emotional realities of adolescence—such as changing peer dynamics, romantic relationships, and family conflict.
- Parent Support and Training – We partner with parents and caregivers to strike a meaningful balance between supporting their teen’s growing independence while staying actively involved in their well-being. We provide tailored guidance to reinforce therapeutic progress at home and empower parents /caregivers through every stage of their teen’s development.
