Dr. Sarah Newth specializes in taking a compassionate and client-centered approach to providing evidence-based therapy for problems with anxiety, mood, OCD and trauma in youth and adults.
Dr. Sarah Newth is a Licensed Psychologist and Director at the North Shore Stress & Anxiety Clinic. She is certified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) by the Canadian Association of Cognitive and Behavioural Therapies (CACBT-ACTCC) and works with clients of all ages, including adults, teens and children. Her areas of expertise include Anxiety Disorders (e.g., Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Social Anxiety Disorder, Agoraphobia, Separation Anxiety, Specific Phobias), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, Mood Disorders, and problems with sleep.
A significant component of her clinical practice is providing treatment and support to Military, Veterans and First Responders including RCMP Members. She also provides treatment and support for perinatal mental health concerns, including postpartum depression, anxiety, and stress related to fertility, pregnancy, and motherhood.

Dr. Newth is committed to providing clients with access to evidence-based treatments. Her approach combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) with specialized forms such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT).
Dr. Newth collaborates with clients to develop plans tailored to their specific needs. Using evidence based therapy techniques, her approach emphasizes empowering clients with practical coping skills. Her aim is to help her clients reduce symptoms and suffering (even when coping with very difficult and painful experiences) while improving wellness and overall quality of life.
Extensive Training and Clinical Experience
Dr. Newth earned her PhD in Clinical Psychology from the University of British Columbia (UBC) and completed a one-year residency at UBC Hospital in Vancouver, BC. Her prior positions and work experience include:
- Team clinician at the Anxiety Disorders Clinic at UBC Hospital
- Telehealth Psychologist, Vancouver Coastal Health Region for remote communities including Bella Coola, BC.
- Director of Programs for Anxiety Canada
Dr. Newth has also provided expert training on managing anxiety and depression in the primary care setting for the Practice Support Program for Physicians in the Fraser Health Region. Dr. Newth’s published research contributions focus on anxiety, mood, stress, and coping with chronic pain. She has also helped write resource materials for the BC Ministry of Health, the Canadian Psychological Association and BC Partners for Mental Health and Addictions Information.
As President and Director of CBT Connections, Dr. Newth has provided training to clinicians and community based professionals in providing evidence-based mental health interventions for over 20 years. Her contributions include delivering province-wide training programs for the BC Ministry of Children and Family Development child and youth mental health teams and the Provincial Child and Youth Mental Health and Addictions Services in Saskatchewan. She has also provided numerous workshops and in services for various organizations such as the BC Association of Pregnancy Outreach Programs and BC school districts. Dr. Newth has served as a consultant on expert committees such as the Doctors of BC “Anxiety and Depression in Children and Youth Working Group” and the Ministry of Children and Family Development “Anxiety Strategy Advisory Group.” She is also a co-author of the Family Physician Guide for Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Early Psychosis, and Substance Use.
Personal Interests
Orginally from New Zealand, Dr. Newth has made Metro Vancouver her home for many years now. In her spare time she enjoys travelling, snow shoeing, hiking, music, playing the piano, cooking, yoga and time in nature. She aims to live the kind of values based life that puts into practice evidence based strategies and skills that make for a full and rewarding life. Dr. Newth is passionate about bringing her compassion, expertize and committment to her clients in support of facing difficulties and making empowering life changes that honor who and what matters the most to them.
