Specializing in Trauma and Grief
Dr. Serene Qiu is a Licensed Psychologist specializing in treating trauma- and grief-related difficulties in adults. Her interest and expertise in these areas developed from her time at the Operational Stress Injury (OSI) Clinic in Fredericton, where she worked with veterans and members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). She is experienced in providing Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and Prolonged Exposure (PE), both of which are research-supported best practices for treating Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She also has specialty training and experience in supporting clients with complex grief, using modalities such as Prolonged Grief Treatment (PGT) and Meaning-Centered Grief Therapy (MCGT). Her goal is to help her clients come to terms with life’s difficult experiences, make sense of them, and find resolution to them.
Dr. Qiu is a registered provider for the RCMP, Veteran Affairs Canada (VAC), and the Crime Victims Assistance Program (CVAP).
Client-Centred and Evidence-Based Approach
With an integrative approach that balances gaining self-understanding and making change, Dr. Qiu collaborates with her clients to tailor treatment to their unique needs. Therapeutic modalities that guide her work includes Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).
Education and Clinical Training
Dr. Qiu received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the University of British Columbia (UBC), where she gained training in both adolescent and adult assessment and therapy. Her clinical training included placements at:
