Specialist in Anxiety, Depression, and Skill Development
Dr. Sharon Agar is a Licensed Psychologist in British Columbia specializing in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). She works with clients experiencing panic attacks, social anxiety, chronic worry, obsessions and compulsions, phobias, habit disorders, grief, sleep difficulties, burnout, and depression. Dr. Agar also provides skills training in stress management, problem-solving, decision-making, and assertiveness. Her approach focuses on improving clients’ quality of life by collaboratively setting specific goals and building the skills needed to achieve them.
Educational Background and Clinical Experience
Dr. Agar began her career working in the Anxiety Disorders Unit at UBC Hospital in 1993. She earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Simon Fraser University in 2003 and worked in private practice at Changeways Clinic early in her career. Since 2012, Dr. Agar has been in private practice at NSSAC and has developed expertise in a variety of mental health challenges and solutions, with a specialized focus on anxiety disorders.
Additional Expertise
Dr. Agar also worked as a Psychologist at HeadWise Rehabilitation, conducting psychovocational and neuropsychological assessments. Her professional experience also includes roles as a Psychologist at the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital and as Acting Director of the UBC Psychology Clinic, where she trained students in the Clinical Psychology Graduate Program.
